Doctor's waiting room..

Why do doctor's waiting rooms feel like elevators. No one talks and the music is always bad. I heard some one say on the radio recently that you should get a text or something when the doctor is running really late. Wouldn't that be great. Not sitting in the waiting/ wasting room doing nothing... Just a thought!
