Continuing my love of these wipes

I love Seventh Generation Free and Clear Wipes and was very happy to try the new and improved version from Generation Good.

I love how thick they are and that it takes very few wipes to get most jobs done. I think that makes them a cost saving wipe as well as knowing how safe they are on my little ones sensitive skin. These wipes are by far the best that I have tried with my two little ones, and we have tried a bunch!

We love keeping these with us for on the go trips!

**No compensation was received for this post, I was sent free sample wipes to try even though we already use them!

Back to School Shopping Time

I love this time of year. I feel like the start of the new school year is like a chance to reset, almost better then New Year's. Maybe I am just in the mood to reset since we have accomplished all our DIY goals for the year! (More on that another day).

Back to school shopping has always been fun, but before my daughter was in Elementary School it was just not the same. I love looking for kids fashion clothes . My daughter is all about her "style" lately so we can't just go with what you find in the stores. But seriously how cute are these clothes from Popreal?

Also don't forget to pick up toddler girl jackets when you are on the Popreal site, I ALWAYS forget coats for my kids! We might try these this year....

Let me know what you pick up for your little ones!

5 Things Parents Need to Know About Sleep

Check out this awesome Guest Post from Sara Westgreen is a researcher for the sleep science hub Tuck Sleep

Helping your child sleep is one of the most important things you can do to support their health. Healthy sleep is essential for development, performance at school, behavior, moods, and physical and mental health. When your child gets enough sleep, they avoid increasing their risk for behavioral problems, difficulty concentrating at school, and even more serious problems including depression, anxiety, suicide, obesity, and chronic health problems.

These five facts explain important things parents need to know about sleep, from ever-changing sleep needs to sleep disorders and the importance of avoiding screen time before bed.

  1. Good sleep habits must be taught. Sleep comes naturally, but good sleep habits may not just happen on their own. Establishing a healthy sleep routine is on you as a parent, and you can help your child create good sleep habits for life. You can do this by establishing consistent bedtimes, a regular bedtime routine, and healthy sleep hygiene, such as avoiding screen time before bed and creating a dark, cool, and calm sleep environment for your child.
  2. Sleep needs are different at each age. Teaching your child healthy sleep isn't a one-time task, as your child has different needs at every age. Newborns sleep up to 18 hours a day, much of it during the day -- and for short stretches at a time. School age children have less time in the REM stage of sleep, so they need to make the most of the deep sleep they get at night. By the preteen years, children are sleeping about 11 hours -- but it's all at night, so it's essential that kids this age have a schedule that allows plenty of time for sleeping. When teens hit puberty, they experience a circadian rhythm shift that pushes their bedtime back. This shift can make them feel like they have insomnia, and make it difficult to squeeze in enough sleep before it's time to go to school.
  3. Children can suffer from sleep disorders. Just like adults, children can suffer from sleep disorders. Parasomnias, including night terrors, sleepwalking, wetting the bed, and talking while sleeping are more common among children than adults. Children can suffer from dyssomnias as well, which include trouble getting to and staying asleep, particularly behavioral insomnia. Parents of young children may be especially familiar with behavioral insomnia, which can manifest as stalling and making excuses for not going to sleep. Children can also suffer from sleep apnea, reflux, nightmares, and narcolepsy.
  4. Screen time can interfere with healthy sleep. At any age, screen time can cause issues with sleep, especially when it occurs just before bed. Screens emit bright artificial light. This light can confuse your child's brain, telling it that it's daytime (time to be awake), even if it's just about time to go to bed. Set limits with screen time, avoiding screens for at least an hour before bedtime and never in bed.
  5. Most teens are chronically short on sleep. Parents often focus intensely on sleep during the infant and preschool years, letting older children manage their own sleep. But teens need just as much help as younger children in establishing and maintaining good sleep habits. In fact, nearly 90 percent of high school students don't get enough sleep on school nights. A lack of sleep in teens can result in poor grades, obesity, drowsy driving, and moodiness. Teens with a lack of sleep are at a higher risk of anxiety, depression, and suicide. It's important that you continue to focus on healthy sleep habits in school age children and through the teen years.

Sara Westgreen is a researcher for the sleep science hub Tuck Sleep. She sleeps on a king size bed in Texas, where she defends her territory against cats all night. A mother of three, she enjoys beer, board games, and getting as much sleep as she can get her hands on.

The Best Toys & Activities For Children’s Vision

As parents we always want what’s best for our kids and when it comes to protecting their valuable vision, there’s a lot more we can do besides giving them more carrots and taking them to see the eye doctor on a regular basis. As a matter of fact, when it comes to avoiding a laundry list of possible vision problems, many parents may not realize that playtime can be the perfect time to develop our children’s eyesight.

Games like hide-and-seek or “peek-a-boo” certainly make good use of growing vision, but check out these age-related games, toys and activities that are good for kids:

Birth to Six Months: Brightly colored rattles, squeaky toys, crib mobiles and gyms. Play patty cake and peek-a-boo with them.

Six Months to One Year: Colorful stuffed animals, floating bath toys, building blocks and other stackable items. Begin introducing them to books, especially those designed for the youngest of eyes and tiniest of hands. Roll a ball to them, tap a balloon through the air and read together with your child while they look on.

Year One: Continue with toys that require hand-eye coordination like building blocks and step it up a notch with a rocking chair and riding toys. Begin to teach them to play catch and encourage them to look at books on their own.

Two Year Olds: Time to break out the paper, pencils, markers and crayons. More advanced learning types of toys, puzzles, sorting shapes, sizes and colors. Aiming activities like ring toss or bean bag targets and take them outdoors to play catch.

Three to Six Years: Building toys with snap together pieces, more advanced puzzles, finger paint, chalk, modeling clay and large balls. Books with activities like connect-the-dots, games, stickers and other projects. Introduce them to playground equipment, especially those that require balance and grasping. Consider a tricycle and then starting them out on a bicycle with training wheels.

Seven Years and Older: Teach them to ride a bike and other activities like jump rope and roller skates. Introduce them to different types of sporting spheres, baseballs, basketballs, soccer balls and (although they’re not round) footballs. More sophisticated building toys and puzzles. Remote controlled toys, board games and other thought involved games and activities.

SAFETY FIRST

Remember to always have children use the proper protective gear, not just helmets when necessary, but also appropriate eyewear when needed. Eye injuries are the leading cause of blindness in children and 90% of sports related injuries could have been avoided with the use of things like goggles, safety shields, eye guards and other protective gear designed for a specific sport or activity.

When your child is outdoors, you apply sunscreen, but don’t forget about sunglasses. Be sure to invest in at least one pair of high-quality sunglasses that can block out up to 99% of the sun’s harmful UV rays. And remember, sunglasses aren’t just for summer, they should be worn year round to protect young eyes.

Potty Training in a Long Weekend

Potty Training- it is the thing that no one likes to talk about. It seems like kids either get it or they don't. I am not sure there is an in between with it. The first time around we had huge success with Miss E, but I was worried about Little B. She is my more stubborn child and the one that does things when she wants to. That said she was coming to me as soon as she peed and telling me. I knew she was ready from my first go round and we had been using our little potty for a while now. Here is the potty we like, the Arm and Hammer by Munchkin

Arm & Hammer by Munchkin 3-in-1 Potty Seat 1 ea

This potty seems to be just about the right height for my on the shorter side girls. We also went to the store and got some underwear as well.

Girls' Nickelodeon® Paw Patrol Bikini Briefs - Multicolored

I do not go with training pants, unless we are in the car or at night (I do not push night time potty training as I enjoy my sleep too much!). So we woke up that Friday morning and "ditched the diaper." We even ran a few errands first thing with no accidents. I took her to pee every 20 minutes, by setting the timer on my phone.  Then the accidents started (at home) but we had 4 that day. That night Hubby and I asked ourselves if we thought she was ready and I knew we had to push through.

So we tried again and went with underwear in the morning. We had a great morning and she had 1 accident, then held it and would not go on the potty for about 4 hours. Then she has another accident and said "Sorry Mommy" for about 10 minutes. I knew she was getting it now.

Sunday we tried again, and she did great all day, until we went out for Easter dinner at a family members house. She was playing with all the kids and forgot to tell me she needed to go and had an accident. Three days in and 1 accident, I was ok with that.

Monday, Little B went to school and they actually did not take her training pant off, but did take her to the bathroom each hour. That night she came home, I took it right off and she STARTED ASKING TO GO POTTY! She had it! We have not been accident free, but they are few and far between and she can go in the car and anywhere else diaper free!

I know that all kids are different, but with both my girls we went right to underwear at age 2 and they both got it with no problems. I am so proud of both of them and I have complete faith in this method.

Health Baby Home Party

I love my Generation Good Health Baby Parties! They not only allow me the chance to try some of the amazing products that they offer, but also share them with my friends.

This box was no exception, we had great items from Bobble, Zarbee's, and of course Seventh Generation.

I want to share some personal favorites from the box, starting with Bobble. Our house loves our Bobble bottles, we each have one and the new Infuse bottle is awesome. This bottle allows you to add fruit or use the filter with your water. It is a 2 in 1 and who does not love that!

Zarbee's are a stable in out house with a little one with asthma that causes a rough night time cough some days.

We keep the natural Dark Honey cough syrup on hands for those nights she needs it.

While I love all the Seventh Generation products, I wanted to share my current personal favorite, the Lavender and Mint Hand Soap.

I love how gentle this is on the baby's skin since she has eczema and loves washing her hands. This soap keeps her skin from drying out while preventing germs.  These are just a few of my current favorite Health Home products, thanks again Generation Good.

*** I was not compensated for this post, but I did receive free product samples to try and share.

New Leaf Team Room

I have always been a fan of tea. My grandmother use to take me out to tea all the time. When I found out the tea room she took me too had new owners, I knew it was time to take the girls. We headed off to the New Leaf Tea Room in Riverton, NJ. The staff let me pre-order the girls sandwiches so they could bring the food right out, and they had Pink Lemonade for the girls to have in place of tea. They loved the experience and want to go back already!

Here are some pictures:

**This post was in no way sponsored or was I compensated, I just loved the staff and wanted to shout out a local business.

Mr. Sketch Washable Markers Review

Who does not remember these awesome makers with the fun scents? I mean half the fun was smelling them! I loved these as a kid, but would not buy them for my littles because well I do not like trying to get marker out of clothes. However, when I found out they come in a WASHABLE format now, I was all in to try them out.

Once the arrived Miss E could not wait to try them out. The girls loved them and after a few sniff tests I can assure you these are legit washable! They come off faces, counters and clothes with no issues at all. Go give them a try!

**I was not compensated for this post, all opinions are my own. Crowdtap did sent me a pack of markers shown to share my opinions.

Seventh Generation Free and Clear Laundry Detergent

Living in a house with a little one with super sensitive skin can be tough this time of year. I have always had sensitive skin, but was not prepared for how sensitive Little B's skin would be. We are always looking for different lotions to help out her skin and be sure to check labels for any fragrance or dyes.

I was very happy when Generation Good asked us to try Seventh Generation Free and Clear Laundry Detergent .

I was happy that this detergent has no dyes or fragrances, that is always a plus, but who would it work on toddler stains? I am happy to say that Seventh Generation Free and Clear Laundry Detergent  not only is safe on my sensitive baby's skin but gets ALL her stains out too. This is a product that will remain on our shopping list for a long time.

***No compensation was received for this post, all opinions are my own. I was sent 3 free sample packs to try the product for this review.

Amazon Toddler Bedding Set

We have decided that Little B will be staying in her toddler bed for awhile (her sister moved at 2 to a big girl bed, but that was because I did not want to buy another crib when I was pregnant with number 2!) So I decided she needed to have some big girl bedding at least. I found this Baby Doll Chevron Toddler Bedding set.  It comes in a bunch of colors, but I had the plum on my wish list, when I went to check it one day and saw the price was down to 14.93! Needless to say I bought it and just hoped it was as nice as I thought.

When it came, I was so happy to feel the quality and how soft it was. Then I opened it up and was even more excited. The flat sheet is actually fitted at the bottom and goes over the mattress! I loved this feature.

The set is just so cute! (Please forgive her crazy amount of stuffed animals!)

***This is not a sponsored post these thoughts are all my own and I just love this set.

Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion

Recently I had the opportunity (thanks to Influenster) to try out Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion

As the mom of a little one with eczema, we love trying new lotions that are fragrance free in our house. I have to say the Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion is a nice choice for those with skin issues. It goes on very light, but really works to lock in moisture. Both my little one and I are loving it with the cold weather finally making it to the Northeast.

**No compensation was received for this post. I received this product to try from Influenster but all options are my own.

Target Deals

So as is typical with my life, I was at Target after 2 days in the house with sick babies when I decided that Miss E needed some new sheets. (After stretching the sheets onto her mattress for like time number 10 it felt like, I was done). So we went into the bedding section when I saw a whole selection of  Threshold 300 Thread Count Organic Cotton Sheets on clearance! I assumed that they would not have full sizes in a pattern that she liked, but this one was right on the shelf!

We both feel in love for $19.98! Not only are these sheets super soft, but when I was putting them on the bed, I found tags on the fitted sheet that said "Top or Bottom" and "Sides." I mean seriously Target I am in love all over again!

How cute to these look on the bed?

***This post is not sponsored by anything one or anything, I bought these sheets myself with my own money and just wanted to share!

    Seventh Generation Healthy Baby

The wonderful people at Seventh Generation, Bobble, and Zarbees sent me some wonderful products to try in there efforts to make the world safer for our babies.

We received some of the new Zarbees baby immune support.

While we have not used this too much yet, after a rough winter and a little one with some known allergies, I am sure to save this for the winter! I think it will just give Little B the edge she needs.

I was so excited to get my Bobble in the package as well. I have wanted one of these for awhile and both girls love using it, always a plus in the summer months.

Finally, from Seventh Generation we received laundry detergent sample (love the free and clear), dish soap, diaper, and wipes.

When having little ones that react to a number of fragrances and colors in products, the Seventh Generation products are a staple in our home.

Thanks Seventh Generation for letting me be part of your fight to end toxins for our kids.

** I was not compensated for this post, but was sent products and sample to use and share with friends.

    Booster Seat Reminders

Did you know that 61% of car crashes occur less than 10 minutes from home? For those of us with children riding in the car, that statistic is a great reminder to be more diligent about car seat safety guidelines, specifically as it relates to booster seat safety.

In fact, a study last fall revealed that 9 out of 10 parents move their children from booster seats to seatbelts too soon, unknowingly putting their children in harm’s way. Check out the following infographic about booster seats, thanks to Chicco.

    Mommy Wars....some thoughts

So I am sure by now that everyone has seen the Similac video. But I had to share it again because I love it. I think everyone can relate to this in some way. I see myself in a couple groups because I am a full time working mom who pumped, but used a bottle and formula so that hubby could help with the girls as well. Little B also breastfeed (I was so excited since Miss E would never latch!) for several months. I am also the mom who took both pre-natal and mom and baby yoga classes with both girls and made all my own baby food.

I will say I still feel judged by SAHM's all the time, but I am getting over it, especially when I see how well my girls are doing. Miss E loves school and can write her own name, knows all her letters and can sound out what most words start with. Also she is one of the most talkative and social 3 year olds I know, even of all the kids in her class.

As for Little B, she is so active at school that she gets bored with just us on the weekend, so I could not imagine her home with no one to play with everyday. For my kids, daycare just seems to fit their personalities and need to be extremely social. But I am not saying that is right for all families and children.

I work because I want to not because our family needs me to as some people have implied to me. Saying things like " I am so sorry you have to work." My answer is always "I enjoy all the extra things my children can do because I have a job I love." FYI to all the judgey people, some of us love our kids and our jobs. We all do what is best for us and our families and that is all different.

Ok rant over, just needed a little soapbox time, but seriously watch the video if you have not, it is AWESOME!
