How do you like your furniture?

This has been an on going debate in our house lately (and I can not tell you why yet, but will soon enough). When choosing coffee tables for your home, what do you like them to look like? I am more of a simple person when it comes to my furniture. I like the tables we have in our family room the best:

We got these 2 years ago and I still love them. I put baskets under them for extra storage and think they are the great and useful.
Or do you like something more modern looking like these:
I prefer simple lines but I still think these are nice.
Which do you like better?
